Welcome to my website. I’m Allen Kanner, a psychologist, writer and activist. My non-clinical work, which is gathered here, focuses on the intersection of psychology with the political, social, and ecological. In earlier days, I also did research in health psychology. Informing all of the above, I had the good fortune of being a young person in the Bay Area during the late ’60s.

The website is organized in sections, primarily by topics. However, books and documentaries are each in their own section. Since there is topic overlap, some of the publications appear more than once. Topics include ecopsychology; capitalism and its alternatives; creating a commercial-free childhood; psychological androgyny and creativity; and stress, positive experiences and health.

I am retiring from clinical work February 26, 2026. For non-clinical purposes please contact me at 510-548-3912.
